Pratchett donates one million dollars to Alzheimer's Research
Terry Pratchett has recently donated one million dollars of his own money to help fund research in to Alzheimers. Terry was diagnosed with a rare form of early onset Alzheimers in December 2007. In the UK 11 GBP is spent in research per year for each person with Alzheimers, by comparison, 289 GBP is spent researching Cancer. Rebecca Wood, Chief Executive of the Alzheimer's Research Trust, said: "Terry's generous donation will fund promising UK research which hopes to find ways to slow down or halt the disease. The reality is that we are scraping for every penny and have to turn down two out of every three research projects."

Rob Wilkins has told us that Ed Sturton has just interviewed Terry for the Today programme and this will be broadcast between 8.00am and 9.00am on Thurdsay 13th March on Radio 4. Also, the BBC has the exclusive on the Alzheimer's conference and so take a look at the news Thursday evening. There's also a lot of other media booked throughout the day and so this should be covered in print over the next few days. A video of his speech can be found on the BBC website.
